Jayonna Sanders is the 2021 recipient of The Gerald Edwards Scholarship. She was awarded a $100.00 scholarship.
DaWaun Johnson is the 2021 recipient of The Jordan Grant Scholarship. DaWaun was awarded a $200.00 scholarship.
Christopher Kirk (not pictured) was the recipient of our Jerrica Moody Scholarship.
Zorielle Standberry and Demyra Williams (not pictured) were recipients of The G Force Scholarship. Both students received a laptop and book bag.

During a 20 year career in healthcare, DeAngela witnessed firsthand the gap in the continuity of care for developmentally delayed youth and adults. This gap created a direct pipeline to homelessness, incarceration, and institutionalization when families and/or the state were unable or unwilling to provide a permanent and safe housing alt
During a 20 year career in healthcare, DeAngela witnessed firsthand the gap in the continuity of care for developmentally delayed youth and adults. This gap created a direct pipeline to homelessness, incarceration, and institutionalization when families and/or the state were unable or unwilling to provide a permanent and safe housing alternative. While funding exists to address some needs, it fell drastically short of giving a quality of life that should be a minimum. DeAngela founded Humble Abode Residence to provide that critical transition into adulthood as prepared, housing secure, and productive members of the greater community. Her passion for people with disabilities has been a driving factor to ensure that this community have the things that are entitled to us all.

Each location will be staffed by our HSM’s (Home safety monitors) to reduce household accidents and assist with protection against outside sources, and security of premises.

Our clients are immersed in Community based activities and employment skills to better prepare them for independent living. Our in-house activities include classroom-style opportunities, planned external learning opportunities and internships.

Personal care can be challenging to people with developmental disabilities. At Humble Abode Residence we teach our residents the importance of good personal hygiene and cleanliness.
We teach our residents how to groom themselves and the importance of self confidence. Other personal care services include:
- Medication set up (Upon request -add'l fees apply)
- Weekly B/P Check (Upon request)
- Group Sessions
- Safety and awareness- (S.L.P.D)
- Assessment- LPN

Humble Abode Residence provides 3 freshly prepared meals in a serve-safe certified kitchen. We understand the importance of dietary needs and vow to work towards meeting each individual need.

Each location will be managed via a security system that includes cameras, alarms, and centralized monitoring service. Private room monitoring will be offered as a service that requires written authorization.
Developmental Disabilities (DDD)
Autism
Autism Spectrum Disease (ASD)- Cortex Disorder of unknown cause. Impairment of socialization. Some symptoms include but not limited to; avoid eye contact, may not like to smile socially, may not like to be touched, sensory difficulties, prefer to be alone, and may have meltdowns when overstimulated.

Attention Deficit Hyperactivity Disorder(ADHD)
Causes for ADHD are unknown and there are 3 subtypes.
- Predominantly inattentive- trouble focusing, distracted easily, have trouble staying on task, trouble
- Predominantly hyperactive- move around constantly, won't be able to sit still without feeling uncomfortable, poor impulse control, and can be attentive.
- Combined-hyperactive and inattentive traits.

Down Syndrome
Down Syndrome (Trisomy 21)- a genetic disorder where the person is born with an extra chromosome 21.
Affects them both mentally and physically. Symptoms include but not limited to: overweight, diabetes, cataracts and other eye impairments, early menopause in women, high cholesterol and thyroid illness.
